2016 Beauty Trends

Hello Beauties! I’m so honored to be back over on Rachael’s blog guest posting again! Since it is a new year, we thought it’d be fun to discuss some of the upcoming beauty trends for 2016. I drew inspiration from this article from Seventeen and created a full-face tutorial that incorporates 5 of those trends, so let’s get started!

• To get the look I’m starting with this Lancôme La Base Pro Perfecting Makeup Primer to create a smooth base. Then, I’m going in with the new L’Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion. This compact is an example of Korean Beauty trends slowly assimilating into Western Beauty, which is also on the rise in 2016.  This is a medium buildable coverage, so it gives a more natural look to the skin and the “lumi” in the name of the product gives a bit of radiance to your complexion to create the desired look. Not only is dewy skin in, but a less heavy coverage is also expected to trend this year in contrast to the heavily “baked” and caked matte bases of 2015.
• Next up I’m concealing. I’m going in with the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer for spots and NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer for under the eyes.
• To finish off the complexion, I’m only powdering where needed to keep the dewy look using my Anastasia Contour Kit.  I’m using a bit of the Banana shade under the eyes just to set the concealer and some of Vanilla in the T-Zone just to make sure I don’t get greasy throughout the day. Finally, I’m topping it off with my Too Cool For School Perfect Day Makeup Fixer Spray, which helps hydrate the skin and adds to the dewy look. It is also a product from a K-Beauty brand, so super trendy.

 

• As the article said, smokey eyes and winged liner are nothing new to the beauty community, however they are taking a subtler turn this year in comparison to the dramatic versions in 2015. For this look I’m starting with the Urban Decay Primer Potion to create a base. Then, I’m creating the smokey eye with my Tartelette 2 In Bloom palette. The key is 1) to keep blending and 2) use less than you think you need.
  • Start with “Flower Child” on a fluffy brush and apply all over the lid to make everything easier to blend.
  • Take a small pencil brush to the shade “Smokeshow” and begin to work it in the outer corner and right at the base of the crease. Concentrate it as low as you can and don’t go more than 2/3 of the way towards the inner corner to keep things subtle.
  • With a flat shader brush apply “Jetsetter” all over the lid.
  • Blend above “Smokeshow” with “Smarty Pants” to diffuse the edge and create a subtle gradient. Keep blending until you get the desired look.
• For lashes, I’m also going with something more natural. To start, I’m applying my Covergirl Super Sizer Mascara (in the limited edition Star Wars packaging!) to just coat the lashes and prepare them for falsies. Next, I’m applying the Ardell Wispies. The band is clear, so I used my Kiss Lash Adhesive with Aloe in Black, which I find helps to blend things better since it conceals the gaps from the band material.
• To finish off the eyes, I’m creating a baby wing with my Kat Von D Tattoo Liner in Trooper. The trick is to make a tiny flick as you reach the outer edge of the eye.

• Going along with the more natural theme, the slightly unkempt “hairy brow” is predicted to take over the “Instagram Fleek” ones. I’m starting by brushing the front third of my brow upward with the spoolie side of my Anastasia Brow Wiz before filling them in normally.
• To set everything in place, I’m going in with the Anastasia Clear Brow Gel making sure to brush upward for the front hairs and to shape the tail normally.

• Heavy contouring is expected to leave us in 2016 and be replaced by strobing, which has already been seen in late 2015. It also helps emphasize the dewy skin trend. To start off the cheeks, I’m dusting just a tad bit of this Too Faced Chocolate Soliel Bronzer using the 3 & E technique. This just adds a bit of dimension to the face, so it is not so flat looking. Then, I’m adding a bit of color to the cheeks with this Neutral Mauve shade (top right) from this Makeup Revolution Blush Palette in Sugar & Spice.
• To strobe, I’m tapping this highlighter in Smoke and Whistles from Colourpop to all of the high points of my face with my clean fingers.

• Overlined lips are to be replaced with bold color instead! I couldn’t choose just one option so I picked a few! It also just goes to show that this eye look goes with anything! Make sure to start with lip primer, as it makes thins a thousand times easier when working with crazy colors. I’m using the one from Colourpop.

  • NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Seoul (Orchid)
  • NYX Liquid Suede in Stone Fox (Blue-Grey)
