Formal & Fabulous

23/11/2015

It has finally reached that time of the year where we get to wear our most incredible dresses and to use an older expression, dress to the nines. There's nothing better than confidently walking into an event or party wearing pieces that look like they were made for you. I have recently been on a search for such dresses, and came across the stunning range that MISSGUIDED currently has. Get ready for a little formal inspiration beautifuls, it's formal dress edit time.

MISSGUIDED lace racer neck midi dress black
This dress is a great alternative to the traditional little black dress. The lace work in the dress creates a beautiful texture and some added interest to the piece. As it is a LBD, styling is quite easy. You can be bold with accessories if you're feeling brave. However, nice and simple will also add to the elegance of the piece. I would recommend a bold silver or gold statement necklace and a matching clutch.

MISSGUIDED fur bardot bodycon black dress
I fell in love with this dress as soon as I saw it. I have a weakness for off the shoulder dresses. Quite frankly I think I would spend most of the time feeling the fur of the dress whilst wearing it. This dress is perfect for those of you who have a triangle or rectangle body shape, this will help balance out or create more curves depending on which you are. When styling this dress I would recommend keeping it simple. The dress is your statement piece. Avoid wearing a statement necklace or necklaces that are lower and would cause issues with the neckline. A short necklace that creates and curved shape or a choker would be perfect for this dress.

Short sleeved version also available
Feathers give you a chance to be bold, so if you are feeling brave enough run with it. Consider adding a patterned stone necklace or a large jewelled necklace. A bold red lip would add the perfect amount of colour that this dress needs. Instead of adding any bracelets when styling, consider adding midi rings instead.

Also avaliable in white
If you're looking for a statement dress in a stunning colour, this is your dress! I adore the sheer fabric and lace hem of this piece. It adds such an extra playful element in comparison to a simple strapless bodycon dress. This dress seamlessly gives you the look of both a short of maxi dress. This can be incredibly helpful if you're not sure which is more appropriate for the event you're attending. When styling this dress consider wearing colours that are simple and draw less attention. The dress is your statement piece. I recommend a short gold necklace, some midi rings, and ear cuff,  a clutch with gold detailing and some strappy gold or black heels.

MISSGUIDED premium sequin lace up side maxi dress black
Hello statement dress! Nothing quite says statement like sequins. However if you don't feel like wearing bolder sequin colours such as gold, silver or rose gold, black is another less bold, yet elegant option.  When styling this dress, once again the dress is your statement piece. Avoid wearing a necklace with this dress. Consider wearing some long, thin drop earrings and a cuff or bracelet instead. Keep these pieces simple and elegant, just like the dress. To add some contrast, you could try adding some white accessories, such as white earrings, clutch and heels.

MISSGUIDED faux leather cross strap midi dress black
This stunning faux leather dress can be a flawless formal dress if styled correctly. Forget about wearing a necklace, as the neckline of the dress will make it look awkward. If you love bold earrings, clutches or shoes, this is your dress. However, do not choose all three at once. Pick one of these, then choose a simple colour or style to match your other pieces with. For example if I chose a fabulous patterned statement clutch, I might choose the colour blue to match my heels and earrings with.

MISSGUIDED satin plunge structured skater dress burgundy
Burgundy is the perfect colour for those of you who are currently in Fall. Of course if it is definitely getting a bit brisk where you live, consider adding a white or black felt duster coat. When choosing a necklace, look for one that creates a v shape that finished 2/3 of the way down the neckline. This ensures that it isn't too short, but will leave enough room so that it won't accidentally hide behind your dress at points during the night. I definitely recommend pairing this dress with some black strappy heels and a black clutch.
Happy styling beautifuls and have a lovely weekend!
